What is Animal Chiropractic

Veterinary Services includes Chiropractic for animals is an effective treatment for the causes of and symptoms due to musculoskeletal imbalance in the body. It focuses on restoring whole-body joint mobility and spinal health throughout the whole body to relieve pain and restore function.

As an experienced Chiropractor, with years of experience also in sports massage, Becky integrates techniques from both professions to provide a gentle and effective treatment, which can be adapted for all animals and can release tension and aid relaxation. Chiropractic can be adapted to suit all animals from your household pet through to the animal athlete; including injury, post-operative rehabilitation, sports rehabilitation, performance, recovering from injury and box rest.

Becky attends horses at yards; please see information below about where we cover. Dogs can be seen in both Burgess Hill and Borde Hill clinics, please contact us to discuss availability and book in your horse or your dog.

You may have identified that your Horse or Dog elicits one or more of the behaviours from the list of signs to look out for. Please get in contact if you would like to find out whether Chiropractic is the right approach for your animal.

What can I expect during treatment?

RKF Chiropractic

During your appointment, Becky will take a full history of your animal, followed by a physical assessment and gait analysis. We allow up to an hour for Initial Consultation for both horses and dogs, to ensure we can capture all the relevant information and fully assess your animal ahead of any treatment. Follow up treatments are around 30 minutes for dogs and 45 minutes for horses. After your session, Becky will discuss any advice and exercises to carry out between treatments.

In the U.K., it is no longer a requirement to seek Veterinary permission for all cases. Guidance issued by RCVS in November 2020 outlined that “an animal declared healthy by the owner, in cases where care is to maintain good health and optimise competition performance, can be seen without specific Veterinary referral”. Becky is a qualified and insured Animal Chiropractor and will seek Veterinary permission routinely for rehabilitation cases and advise your Vet of any routine treatments prior to your appointment.

Rider Assessment

As a qualified human Chiropractor, Becky has a wealth of experience in human postural assessment and specialises in rider biomechanics. Becky is therefore also able to offer ridden assessment of your riding posture and ridden biomechanics, which may, in turn, be affecting your horse when in work. Becky can undertake this assessment as part of a Chiropractic appointment and is happy to discuss options for your own treatment in line with your horse, to enable you both to perform at your best ability.
